The staff here at Advanced Gauging Technologies recently completed our annual radiation training event. We do this in order to train new staff and offer a refresher to the rest. Each year, Dr. Laura Smith teaches us about the physics of atoms, nuclear binding forces, particle emissions, and a host of other cool nuclear physics topics.
In addition to all of the normal training material, relevant and current news topics always seem to find their way into the conversation. Items such as the Alexander Litvinenko poisoning with polonium-210 in 2006, the Fukushima nuclear reactor event in 2013, or the theft of radioactive Cobalt-60 medical material in Mexico last year lead to great training conversations about how radioactivity affects us in our everyday lives.
In the near future we plan on adding some of our training material to the website to help illustrate and explain how we use nuclear physics in our isotope thickness gauges. Stay tuned!
You may have read about Greg Jasnikowski in a previous blog, where he was introduced as our personal trainer and friend. Well, we want to expand a bit on who Greg really is.
Jasnikowski is originally from Poland and now resides with his wife and two sons in the Columbus, Ohio area. Greg has a studio in Columbus, where he provides numerous fitness training and boot camp classes throughout the week. He uses over 15 years of experience and knowledge to personalize each training session. Greg is the founder of Power Up Training System, which combines martial arts’ power techniques, plyometric athletic drills and the best strength weight bearing exercises with incredibly effective stretching routines.
With our unique business culture, Greg travels to our facility every Tuesday and Thursday, where we spend about 45-60 minutes in A.G.T.’s warehouse gym pounding out a variety of vigorous exercises. Greg is not your typical personal trainer; he mixes up the routines each and every day. As a matter of fact, we have never duplicated a routine. We’ve had the pleasure of letting Greg get us healthy since April 2014 and we are still holding strong in 2015. Not only have we all seen results due to Greg’s expertise, but we decided to take things to the next level where for the next three months we have implemented a company-wide fitness contest! Those of you who have purchased an A.G.T. thickness gauge have probably noticed the Made In U.S.A. sticker on the inside of the gauge cabinet. Since our products are designed and manufactured right here in the heartland of America, we decided our building grounds should exhibit the same sense of patriotism. Last summer, we installed a new flagpole so that we can proudly display both the U.S. and State of Ohio flags.
Advanced Gauging is pleased to announce that our first shipment of 2015 was a new AGT800 Laser Thickness Gauge. The gauge was shipped on January 8th to Nova Steel in Stoney Creek, Ontario and will be installed on a refurbished 60” Pro Eco Slitter. Vince Gallo, General Manager at Nova Steel, is very familiar with A.G.T. from his past experience at other companies and expressed immediate interest in the AGT800 soon after he joined Nova. He visited A.G.T. in August to see the gauge in person and ended up issuing a purchase order before his return to Canada.
Although this is our first laser gauge shipment to Canada, we anticipate many more before the year is out. We have already received a great deal of interest in the AGT800 from several Canadian service centers and we foresee no let-up in the number of inquiries we continue to receive on a regular basis. Key benefits mentioned with most of these requests include the elimination of the need for a radioactive source, the fact that the AGT800 can measure virtually any type of material in coil, sheet or strip form, and the capability to measure up to .750” (19 mm) thick material.
