Valmont Industries (Valmont, Nebraska) accepts delivery of a new AGT400. This is Valmont’s first thickness gauge and is located on a 79” Herr-Voss Slitter.
NONCONTACT STRIP-THICKNESS MEASUREMENT
Advanced Gauging Technologies, LLC, Plain City, OH, introduces the AGT800 laser thickness gauge—an online noncontact device equipped to measure any strip material 0.040 to 0.750 in. thick. The first production system, say company officials, went to a 96- by 0.750-in. Butech stretch leveler-CTL line that shipped in mid-September 2013.
The thickness gauge and its accompanying SPC reporting system is designed to measure the thickness of metal alloys and any other materials processed in coil, sheet or strip form. Two Keyence laser sensors mount above and below the strip; laser-triangulation technology provides quick, accurate and reliable thickness measurements.
SPC reports include a graphic representation of strip thickness over the coil length, with indications locating out-of-tolerance material; a defect-summary report describing each defect type and its respective location in the coil; and a system-setup report. Benefits include documented compliance with ISO 9002 and QS 9000 requirements, in addition to improved process control, increased productivity and scrap reduction.
Mexico Starts Up AGT400
Senior Field Service Engineer, John Fearing, started up an AGT400 at Aguascalientes Steel Coil Center. This isotope thickness gauge, located on a 72” Sonada Slitter, will measure Hot Rolled, Cold Rolled, Galvanized and Pickled Steel with a thickness range of 0.4 to 6.0 mm. Aguascalientes is a sister company of Kentucky Steel Center, which already has three other AGT400 thickness gauges.
Testing and Measurement – Metal Center News March
Advanced Gauging Technologies LLC, Plain City, Ohio, offers a new noncontact laser thickness gauge that can measure any strip material ranging from 0.040 to 0.750 inch in thickness. There is no radioactive source and no federal or state licensing requirements.
The AGT800 Laser Thickness Measurement and S.P.C. Reporting System is designed for measuring metals and any other materials that are processed in coil, sheet or strip form. It uses the latest in laser triangulation technology and provides fast, accurate and reliable thickness measurements. Direct benefits include documented compliance with ISO9002 and QS9000, in addition to improved process control, increased productvity and scrap reduction, the company claims.
The AGT800 incorporates a similar user interface and has most of the same functionality as Advanced Gauging’s AGT400 Isotope Thickness Gauge. There are no special cooling or installation requirements. It is also supported by the company’s team of field technicians.
National Orders A Thickness Gauge
In Chicago, National Processing Company experienced a fire, but that did not stop them from upgrading an obsolete Gamma 200 to an AGT400 on a 72” Pro-Eco Pickle Line. Fortunately, no one was injured during the mishap.
